Welcome, friend.

You have arrived at The Goolz Society — a quiet, voluntary society for the documentation and ethical observation of goolz: the small green creatures (not ghouls; please) of forest, basement, footnote, and pantry.

A gool is roughly the size of a russet potato. It is shy. It is allegedly real. It tends to move only when you are not looking, which makes it very hard to research and very easy to underestimate.

This site catalogs everything we know — and a great many things we suspect — about the goolz.

What's Inside

Bestiary

Field profiles of the seven recognized gool species. Habitat, diet, demeanor, danger rating (low).

→ open bestiary

Sightings Log

Public reports filed by Society members. Mostly mundane. Occasionally moving.

→ read recent sightings

Catching

The Society does not endorse capturing goolz. We do publish a vetted protocol for ethical close observation.

→ catch-and-release protocol

Lore

Origin myths, regional names, and the long-running argument over whether goolz dream.

→ enter the lore stack

The Almanac

A periodic refresh of new sightings and notes, drawn from member correspondence. Updated as the post arrives.

A Footnote Gool (Goolus marginalia) was reportedly living between paragraphs of a 2009 academic monograph. It added a small superscript "²" to the third footnote on page 412. By the bibliography it was gone. The "²" remains.

No. 0421 · spotted 2026-04-15 · living room CRT, late evening

A Static Gool manifested in the dead-channel snow of a 1994 Sony Trinitron during a thunderstorm. It said the homeowner's middle name. The homeowner has not told anyone their middle name since 2011. The set has since been unplugged. It still hums.
